A day in the air

Shockingly, the title of this post isn't about my husband flying in the air. Instead, it was my turn today.

One of the cool things about Charleston AFB is how they involve spouses with things on base. Every year, they do a "spouse flight" for the flying spouses on a C17. Somehow, until today, I've never actually been on one. Isn't that weird? Its like not knowing where my husband's office is, but in this case, a plane is his office. Does that make sense?

This is a few of my friends from our 15th squadron that flew with me.

The plan was to fly us (about 50 women over 2 jets) out to a different location, drop us off, and do a special airdrop showing. Then, we were to get back on the jets and fly around downtown which is the part I was most looking forward to.

This the "puke bag"they gave each of us ahead of time- just in case. I thought it was funny, "don't be embarrased…" HA. Thanks Air Force for the advice. Thankfully none of us on my jet needed it despite  the bumpy flight.

Since we started the flight with a little jet problem and less than fantastic weather, plans changed right away. We didn't end up getting to land at all or fly downtown, so instead we got a little show of our own. The crew opened the back twice while in the air which was awesome! Don't panic Mom. We were safe in our seat belts.

We didn't get to see much from all the clouds, but it was still pretty amazing to be flying with the back open. I now get why the Giant loves his airdrop flights. And, no, we weren't as high up as he was here nor did we have anything dropping out the back so the adrenaline rush was definitely not the same, but I get it. It was cool.

This picture below shows you what we saw. It wasn't that white from the sunshine. It was just that white from the clouds. Of all the days for hot and sunny Charleston to be cloudy…  

Oh well, it was still pretty awesome to see my husband's 'office.' :) I'm so glad he could be home today and have a daddy/daughter date downtown while Mommy spent a day in the air. Too bad I don't have any pictures from their day. From what I've heard, it was just as fun.

Taste of Charleston

Blog silence? Yes, I know. Its been a busy few weeks.

Our first new home visitors have come and gone, and I think we can say the first weekend as hosts was a success!

The Giant's parents came down for a semi-last minute visit last weekend to see him before he deploys. Knowing we have few weekends left, we are making the most of every moment we have. We had such a great time showing them around our new hometown (and Cheyanne loved showing them our neighborhood playground).

One of the best things about living here in Charleston is that there is always something fun to do in town. That sure makes being a host an easy job.

Last weekend was especially delish. The Southern Living Taste of Charleston was happening here and I think I can walk you through our weekend via a menu.

The Taste of Charleston is one weekend of live entertainment, Southern Living charm, and ridiculously yummy food and drink samples created by 40 of the best restaurants in Charleston. Fresh local clam chowder? Southern style baby back ribs and barbecue? Homestyle mac 'n cheese?  Some kind of pumpkin and graham cracker made in heaven medley? Yes. Yes. Yes! Add some wine and a whole lot of beer tastings in the mix, and you have one heck of a weekend.

Cheyanne enjoyed playing with her Grandma and Grandpa. Grandma and Little Miss became quick buddies. 

With Grandma and Grandpa in town, Hubs and I actually got a little break their last night here and we got to enjoy a date night. That's right. We finally got to remember what a date is. Even though we were so full from all the weekend food, we still somehow managed to waddle out of the house after baby was asleep and find belly room for fried cheesecake and a big ol' margarita.

Yeah, it was big.

I really appreciated the in-laws letting us enjoy a few hours alone. It has been so long since we've had that. Over a year ago actually. I know because I briefly blogged about it HERE. Together- just him and I? We drove around for 20 minutes not sure what to do with ourselves or where to go. Seriously. It was weird. But, wonderfully weird. We finally settled on a little Mexican restaurant we stumbled on and actually closed the place down at the late hour of 10:30pm- the crazy, wild rebels that we are. But I truly am so grateful for my in-laws volunteering to stay home so we didn't have to. 

All in all, it was a weekend worth remembering. With so few of these left, I'm cherishing every moment. This weekend, we're adventuring to the pumpkin patch. Yay for cute pic ops to come! Don't you just love the purple seagrass?

We made it!!

We're a family of 3 again- finally! And we're living this new exciting life in our new hometown of CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA!!!! (That's my official announcement of assignment for all of you climbing the wall in curiousity- HA).

We've closed on the house, painted two living rooms, began random repairs in the home, spent our first night in the house after 4 nights in the base hotel, and began exploring our new city. Oh, and we've come back to VA for a few days to move our stuff in a DITY move. I haven't actually slowed down enough yet to take in whats happening. Thus the MAJOR lack in blogging. Well, that and the fact that we are living without internet right now for at least another week after we return home. 

Other things I haven't slowed down to think about yet- my baby is going to be ONE way too soon. The 16th is coming up very fast and I am not ready for this big day yet. Mentally, at least. I had to her party planned but because of some last minute issues (like our trip back to VA to get our furniture) we had to do a last minute change and move it to VA for this weekend. Ahhh! So much to do. No breaks in sight. I'll be cooking and decorating all day tomorrow then celebrating with family and friends on Saturday. I'll hold back the tears for now. I'll fill you in how it all goes later on.
