Swimming through the heat

Today was a scorcher. 95 degrees in May. Oh Lordy, that is a hot sign for the summer. But, shoot, I'm not pregnant this summer so bring it on I say!

My sweet baby fish and I enjoyed the sunshine by taking a dip in my grandmother's pool today. I seriously think that Cheyanne might very well be part mermaid. She even threw a mini-fit when it was time to get out of the pool because she was enjoying it so much. Seriously, who knew an eight month old could throw a fit? Hmm, I take this as a clear sign of our future to come. Breathe.

We practiced all of our swim moves that we learned in swim class. You'd never know it had been a whole month and a half since her last swim class. It was obvious that everything we she learned came back to her very quickly. I am glad that she is so comfortable in the water. After reading Sarah's post on buying her baby a little pool, I think that might be on my shopping list next time I'm at Tarjee or Walmart. I know a kid that would absolutely go bananas in it.

(These pictures are showing up little on my screen, so you may need to click on them to see them full size to truly appreciate her many faces. Gotta love the tongue...)

Diva in mermaid disguise?

Oh yeah!

Mark it down

This girl is a child prodigy. Only kidding. For now, at least. Yeah, I'm one of those moms... ::shrug::

But, just in case those long monkey fingers (and toes) actually do cause her to grow up and be a world renowned pianist, I have the pictures to prove she was a child prodigy. :)

Chey discovered his mini keyboard this past week. Too bad it was a yard sale find and while it works some of the time as a fun toy, it quickly becomes a speaker-blown crankily loud banging machine (Ahh the sweet sound of silence while the babe takes a break and sleeps).

Here she plays with her toes. Impressed?

Judgement face. You only wish you could play with your toes.

Sometimes she multitasks and play with toys WHILE playing the keyboard.

Other times she really gets into it, her whole body leans in and plays a part.

And every once in a while, she hits a bad note and it just throws her off. Who wouldn't cry about that?

As I said, sweet silence...

A clogged milk duct? !@#$&*!

Well, its beautiful outside and I'm stuck inside right now. ::Insert biggest frown imaginable!:: What can I do with a hungry baby who won't drink from a bottle, won't even consider eating anything solid until dinner time, and can't nurse because I have a clogged milk duct on my right breast? I'm stuck inside relying on hot compresses to get me through. I've tried offering to nurse her, but she gets frustrated too quickly and just gets mad. I've never had this happen before. What do I do? Any quick fixes?!!

T.R.O.U.B.L.E. and a few celebrations

Yeah... a rocking chair is not a good place to start learning to pull up. My little trouble girl.

She didn't get far this time, but I'll be keeping a close eye on her.

_____________

And, in other news, I have to leave a big ol' shout out to a very special woman in my life who's celebrating a very special day today! OK, two women actually.

First, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my Mom! I can never thank you enough for being the strong, loving, and all-around greatest mother to, well, ever exist. I don't say it enough, but Mom you are such a shining light in our family and I am blessed to be your daughter. You make every single day better, not just for me, but for everyone that knows you. You are a one-of-a-kind. Happy birthday!

And second, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to my rockin' sister and brother-in-law. The big TEN! You two never cease to amaze me. The love and commitment you have to each other is rare and so special. Thank you for continuing to be amazing role models of what true love is. Congratulations!!

Go away

Flow Ho! Go away!! I'm not ready for you yet. Shoot shoot shoot! 17 months without you and I didn't miss a single dang minute. Baby #2 suddenly sounds much more tempting than it did a few days ago. (Slight exaggeration...but only slightly). Moms, you know what I'm talking about, right?!

All about him

This is just a quick update since I've been asked quite a few times during the last few days events. As you know, my husband is in Oklahoma now for his final three months of training. He is Altus, which is to the far west of the state. Thankfully, Altus has been spared from any of the tornadoes over the last few days. A few tornadoes have touched down in the counties around Altus but none close enough to cause problems for the base. I've talked to him every day, and things are very much business as usual. There are alarms in all of the buildings that sound when a tornado is in proximity, which he says have been going off a lot, but *thankfully* none touching down there, just all east. I wanted to share this so everyone in his family can breathe some relief. He has in no way been in any paths.

However, my heart is breaking for all of those people that have been affected by this unbelievable tornadoes! My eyes seem to be glued to either the weather channel or the news watching these horrific photos coming out. Whole towns destroyed. I just can't imagine being there! Keep saying your prayers for these people. Since tornado season is just getting going, I'd pray for all those not affected yet too. It doesn't look like there is an end in sight any time soon.

Thanks for the sweet messages I've received with concerns for his safety. He is fine.

Sharing a giveaway

One of my favorite shops to browse through online is having a HUGE giveaway. Lovella Bowtiques along with 30+ vendors is having a launch for their new website, giving away $1500 worth of products. I seriously spend hours browsing the sites dreaming of all things I could dress Cheyanne in. Oh, to be rich... or just to be lucky and win the lottery. I'd go crazy in Lovella if I could. ::hmphf:: Felicia, the owner and creator of Lovella Bowtiques has designed some fantastic pieces that I would love to get my hands on.

Anyways, because I increase my chances of winning the big giveaway by telling you, I'm telling you. I'm not looking for more competition in this giveaway, but if you want to go halvesies with me if you win, go on over to http://lovellabowtiqueblog.blogspot.com/ to find out how to get your name in the running. Consider halvesies my commission fee. :) Or you should be able to click on the Lovella button to the right and it should direct you as well. Anyways, good luck. Chunky Monkey

I love baby chunk! That's no secret. I've always known I'd probably have a *healthy* sized baby. I mean, her Daddy and his brothers too were all practically 10lb newborns. We were all shocked when she came out and wasn't a bigger rolly polly herself. Remember this time of our lives?

Its also no secret that she gives me plenty of precious lovely baby chunk to love on. I could kiss those sweet baby thigh rolls all day long.

So, guess who got on the scale today and is up a few ozs... NOT ME! Little Miss is tipping the scale at 20.4 pounds this morning!! 20.4!!!

The only cute fat is baby fat, and I am so thankful for every single ounce of her.

Should I?

I SHOULD have had a third cup of coffee today because I am moving like a sloth this morning.

I SHOULD vacuum the carpets today, but I'm lazy.

I SHOULD have worn sunscreen yesterday while washing the cars, but I was too excited for my first full day in the spring/ summer sun to think ahead.

I SHOULD get to work on my husband's scrapbook that has been sitting in the same place untouched for the last two months, but there are still 3 months to get to it.

I SHOULD write other posts unrelated to Baby Cheyanne... or maybe I should just rename this blog "In Cheyanne's House."

I SHOULD strive to be more eco-friendly, but since I'm cloth diapering, I feel like I'm really taking one for the team every day by handling poop. You're welcome.

I SHOULD start working on my "No- no!" face with Cheyanne since she usually just laughs at me if I say it when she is getting into something she shouldn't, but its too hard because I inevitably give in or laugh back. Dang that girl and her too cute face.

I SHOULD say thank you more to those I love in my life. Thank you.

I SHOULD call the dermatologist and schedule an appointment to tackle this teeny bopper face of mine, but for some reason I never seem to think about it during business hours.

I SHOULD read more, but come on, who has time for that?

I SHOULD respond to the many unanswered emails I have waiting on me in my inbox, but ehh...

I SHOULD go to the gym... but I have entirely too many daily BUTS to type out in explanation here.

I SHOULD find a little me time once in a while that does not revolve around anyone else (selfish I know). No buts here. I just should.

I SHOULD stop rambling and actually get off my ARS and get to it...

Yeah, I really should...

HAPPY SUNDAY EVERYONE! :)

8 months

Since we were saying bye-bye "see you again soon" to Daddy on your 8 month birthday, this post is a few days late.

Where do I begin? EIGHT MONTHS! And, I thought turning 7 months old was a big milestone.

Cheyanne, you are killing your Momma! You are growing up too fast! Slow down! Well, actually, if you could slow down everything except this new screaming to throw a quick tantrum thing that you have started recently. Yep, all else- slow it down a notch.

Besides the tantrum throwing, you have actually been up to a lot of exciting things this last month!

You are mobile. Not crawling yet mobile, but you are right on the edge. The desire is there, but that one leg  keeps getting you hooked every time you get into the crawl stance.

And you're still working on getting to that crawl stance without falling forward. That stupid floor is always getting in the way.

But, this is a huge improvement from the dreaded tummy time. Now you put yourself down there and my job is to just keep you from smacking into the floor (which I usually succeed at, however, we've had your first couple bruises the last few weeks- sorry- bad momma). You have scooted backwards a few times but I don't think you realized quite what you had done. You do however LOVE to stand and jump. "Jump jump jump" is all I have to say to get you going. And, rolling is a continual mode of transportation. You want something? Just roll to it.

Your schedule.... what schedule?! We are so far off any kind of schedule these days, its disastrous. Your daily schedule from a few months ago made this plannable Momma very happy. It seems that every time that we get close to getting you back into the swing of things, we head back out of town or something happens that requires us to change things around. That drops us right back to square one of relearning to sleep on your own at the right time. So, while you still take 2 naps morning and afternoon (whenever you feel like it), they have shortened to roughly 30 minutes at a time. Sigh. That does not leave Momma much time to enjoy a shower or get much done without you on my hip. And, still no sleeping through the night either. Good thing you are so cute and love your Momma so much because we spend A LOT of time together :) We're best friends.

Some of your favorite things are Mickey Mouse, brushing your teeth, bananas, giving kisses, drinking water out of Momma's glass, and a nice breeze. All of these things make you smile from ear to ear. You love to watch Journey no matter what she is doing. Lord help her the day you start to crawl.

You eat solids twice a day while you still nurse every 3-3.5 hours. You've had bananas, peaches, applesauce, pears, sweet potato, squash, avocado, green beans, peas, and carrots. We've also started you on Plum organic baby organic super puffs banana and peach flavor. So far, so good. You're still timid about eating them on your own, so for now I feed them to you out of my hand until they really soften.

We have a few favorite games that we play every day. Where's Cheyanne? and Kissee Monster are some of our favs. We play/sing wheels on the bus, head and shoulders, and patty cake a lot too. (If anyone ever needs to know some hour-long lifesaving lyrics to wheels on the bus, just let me know- lifesaving because they saved us on our road trip to NC last week). Your laughter turns any bad day right again. Its the best sound in the world to my ears, so it is pretty embarrassingly ridiculous what I'm willing to do to hear it.

You have grown a lot in the last month. You are in cloth diapers about 85% of the time. You only wear pampers when we are out all day, out of town, or at night sleeping. But when you are in Pampers, you are still in size 3 but they sure are fitting you differently than they did last month. You are primarily in 12 month clothing. Thankfully, as it gets warmer outside, you stay in dresses most of the time. I'm pretty sure you are outgrowing your size 3 shoes, long thin feet like your daddy. You truly are growing way too fast.

You've had a few big firsts that I want to remember. You waved bye-bye, not to your Momma who has practiced and practiced with you, but instead to a Chick-fil-A worker who waved at you. Jealous! You also had your first trip out on the beach last week. This was when we went with Daddy to OBX and went for a nice walk on the beach. You are just like both of us, you love the ocean- wave after wave brought on smile after smile. You talk now also. You can say MOMMA and BABA and recently WAWA and YAYA.  You love the mouth consonants but haven't tried much of the tongue consonants. No DADA yet. I gush every time I hear Momma, whether it is too me or not, I don't care. I love it. Oh, and your tongue sticking out is a constant.

Ok, that is a good description of your changes in the last month. I still can't get over that you are now 8 months. I get choked whenever someone asks how old you are because saying "eight months" just doesn't seem right. My little love girl, I can't get enough of you. I could eat you up every single day. Keep the sweet times a comin' my baby.

Obviously, it is getting harder and harder to get Little Miss to sit still for long for a decent picture. Thus, we had four different photo shoot locations. From the bed to the couch to the floor to somewhere else on the floor. Crazy girl.
